At-Home Spa Treatments to Look and Feel Your Best Before Your Next Appointment

Home Sweet Home

Going for Spa treatments take time and money. The one with limited time and limited budget can only afford to step into a spa every once in a while. Those with time and financial resource can go there at periodic intervals only.

So what should one do if one cannot afford to go, or does not have time to go? What does one do in between the time until the next spa appointment?

Here are some tips and tricks to follow that will make you look and feel like your best without leaving your home until the next visit to your favorite spa.

To de-puff eyes naturally

Tea bags – get a cold used tea bag (not decaffeinated and kept inside the fridge for several hours) and put on your eyes for at least 15 minutes. The antioxidants from the tea will help ease down inflammations and the caffeine will aid in minimizing the appearance of blood vessels. You can also use cotton pads soaked in a cool tea for the same effect.

Potatoes – to diminish puffiness peel and slice raw potatoes cooled in the refrigerator and apply it on the area around your eyes. Potatoes lessen the inflammation and it is also a natural astringent.

*The cold also helps lessen the swelling thus the advice to put it inside the refrigerator before use.

To make skin glow

Lemon-Oil-Sugar - Natural moisturizing body scrub using equal parts of virgin coconut oil and brown sugar (about half a cup each), and half of a lemon. Heat up the virgin coconut oil enough to dissolve the brown sugar. Once the sugar is dissolved, add in juice from the lemon. Mix altogether. The coconut oil moisturizes the skin while the lemon and brown sugar exfoliates the dry skin cells. Good for use all over the body.

Oatmeal facial mask– can be used as a facial mask to make your face look young and glowing. Oatmeal soothes and tightens the skin with its beta-glucan content. Mix equal parts oatmeal (not the instant kind) and honey with 3 parts plain yogurt. Apply on your face for 5 minutes and then rinse with warm water. Honey provides smoothening while plain yogurt has lactic acid that exfoliates and moisturizes skin.

Asparagus facial mask (for dry skin) – the chlorophyll content in asparagus makes skin glow naturally as it brightens and exfoliates the skin. Puree raw asparagus with milk and then add equal parts avocado and honey. Apply to face and leave there for 15 minutes before rinsing.

To soften rough spots

Oranges – contains natural acids that exfoliate the skin. Simply cut the orange and give it a gentle squeeze to draw out the juice as you massage it on your body concentrating on the rough patches of the skin.

Grapefruit – great for softening rough patches of skin on the elbows. Cut a grapefruit in half and put your elbows to rest on top of it for at least 15 minutes.

Lemon – the acidity in lemon softens rough patches on the skin as well as lightens dark spots too. Simply rub a freshly cut lemon on the rough and dark areas of your skin.
